Wise words from Virgil

“Audentis Fortuna iuvat,”  translated means “Fortune Favors the Brave.”  I love this quote because it is true in almost all areas of life.  Be brave, be courageous, and you make your own fortune (not necessarily money…relationships, a satisfying career). Bravely set forth and do not let doubt or fear hold you back.  A corollary to this is “you make your own luck.”  The gist of both is that by sitting and thinking, wondering, and being too timid to try, it is unlikely that success will find you, at least in the measure you wish. Aeneid, book 10, line 284. Thanks to The Yale Book of Quotations, 2006.
